There is a lot of discussion in the media about offsetting carbon and possible trading of carbon credits, but please be aware of the pitfalls and obstacles.

The most important steps to be taken with regard to carbon credits is to measure and understand the carbon footprint of your farm/holding. The phrase “polluter pays” is now entrenched in politics and before any carbon is sold off the holding it is important to ensure the business is carbon neutral, now and going forward.

There are numerous ways to improve your carbon storage on the farm. These will include activities from planting trees to changing farming practices in order to improve the carbon storage of your soils.
